About
I didn't get my diagnosis in childhood. Like a lot of women, I was diagnosed late, after years of masking, overachieving, and quietly falling apart. Diagnosis felt like I discovered the missing puzzle piece to my childhood and adult challenges, why I always felt like I was performing a version of myself, and why my motherhood journey looked different from others.
That experience shaped everything about how I work. At Unbound Wellness we're passionate about neurodivergence - assessment, therapy, and parenting support. We want to to help you unlock the secrets of your brain—not to slap on a label, but to empower you with understanding and compassion! Whether you're an adult still trying to figure out who you are without the mask, a parent trying to understand your neurodivergent kid(s), or a child/ teen trying to understand your own differences and strengths.
I know what it feels like to sit in the chair you might be sitting in right now. It does get better , and you are not alone. Let’s celebrate our unique strengths and ditch the exhausting quest to conform to neurotypical standards. Together, we can thrive and not just survive!
My name is Emily Nelson
Principal Psychologist
I believe everyone should embrace and love their brain, but that involves understanding it and taking the time to create a relationship with it. Using an integrative approach to therapy that combines Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), Compassion focused therapy (CFT) and narrative therapy, I help individuals, especially those from neurodivergent backgrounds, harness their unique strengths to lead fulfilling lives.
As a registered psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) based in Brisbane, Australia, I have both a bachelors (+honours) and masters degree in psychology and have over five years of experience working with children, adolescents, and families across a range of settings including youth detention centres, drug and alcohol services, child protection system, and in private practice. This means I have worked with young people, parents and families across a range of presenting concerns including anxiety, stress, depression, adjustment difficulties, social and relationship issues, schooling issues, anger and aggression, substance misuse, and neurodivergence.
Outside of my work as a psychologist, I enjoy running, reading, and spending quality time with my husband, children, and puppy.

Fluffy Intern

Hi there! I’m the cheeky puppy who keeps my human company during online therapy sessions. While they work, I like to make my presence known by giving their feet a little lick or flashing my best puppy eyes for some extra treats. I’m not a fan of my dog bed—I prefer the comfy human chair where I can snuggle in and relax. Sometimes, you might even hear me snoring softly while my human chats away!
